Dear Mr Cameron,
For a man who accused other countries of being ‘fantastically corrupt’, you’re not doing so badly yourself.
Roberto Saviano, who has a death warrant on his life for exposing corruption in Italy, has called Britain the most corrupt country in the world. He calls the city of London the ‘drug money laundering capital of the world, and 90 per cent of drug cash ends up in the US and Europe via London’. Speaking in Singapore last year didn’t you say, ‘London is not a place to stash your dodgy cash’?
Joel Benjamin, in the Independent, wrote, ‘Britain’s institutionalised corruption is grounded in the so-called “old boys’ network” that runs the political establishment and controls the City of London’.
But hey, who cares? This is Britain where a 3 second susurration of ‘booing and hissing’ as Laura Kuenssberg is about to ask a question of Jeremy Corbyn is called, ‘rude and inappropriate’, ‘Disgraceful behaviour’, ‘Harassment and bullying in the workplace’, ‘Pathetic. People need to get a grip’. Ah yes, we jolly well know what’s not cricket, eh?
Right now there is an historic series of investigations into allegations of Tory election fraud, not least in East Thanet where apparently your party sent ‘one of the most expensive QCs in the country’ to contest a request by Kent police for more time to investigate claims of illegal financial irregularities in election spending. Perceptive observers will note that such actions by your party are an implied admission of guilt from a party which does not wish its actions exposed to public and legal scrutiny.
Allow me to remind you of an article written by you and published in the Telegraph on the 6th of July 2011, entitled, ‘David Cameron: We are creating a new era of transparency’. In it you wrote that after publishing street-level crime maps on a government web site the servers crashed after receiving 18 million hits in a single hour. You went on, ‘This incredible demand shows the power of transparency, and why we need more of it. Information is power. It lets people hold the powerful to account, giving them the tools they need to take on politicians and bureaucrats.’
Towering hypocrisy and lies are yet more corruption at which you excel. There are two things wrong with this nation, the most corrupt government in UK history and a public so supine the best it can do is tut when someone boos. The only hope for this country is if the British public stop being so bloody British! No amount of crying ‘someone ought to do something’ is going to rescue this country until and unless that someone is the same person who is making the statement. Britain, your country needs YOU! All together now, ‘Tut’.
