City Takes Anti-Trans Laws To Extreme Levels

A city in Alabama is taking anti-transgender discrimination to a whole new level. They will now arrest persons that violate their new law, and this arrested could spend up to six months in jail. “A small town in Alabama just passed the most extreme anti-transgender bathroom bill yet: The city of Oxford will now make it illegal for people to use a public bathroom that does not align with their birth certificate, punishing those who violate the law with a $500 fine and up to six months in jail. reported that the ordinance came in response to Target’s decision to let trans employees and shoppers, who identify with a gender different from the one assigned to them at birth, use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity. Target has a store in Oxford.

Oxford is just the latest jurisdiction to join what the New York Times called “bathroom hysteria.” Recently, North Carolina passed an anti-LGBTQ law that prohibits trans people from using the bathroom of their choice in schools and government buildings.”
