Illinois Releases Inmates Then Sues Them for Room And Board

According to the Brennan Center for Justice, at least 43 states take part in what is often called room and board fees from prisoners. Some states also charge inmates for all of their medical fees. Both of these strategies were designed to ease the financial cost of prison systems on the taxpayer but is this ethical?
