In a little over a week, Curtis Jones,once the youngest convicted murderer in the nation, will be set free for the first time since he was 12 years old. Jones was convicted in 1999, with his 13-year-old sister, Catherine Jones, after he gunned down his father’s girlfriend. Child welfare reports revealed the siblings targeted the girlfriend, their father and another male relative living with them. They claimed the male relative was sexually abusing them. Their father and his girlfriend didn’t believe them, despite a child services report acknowledging there were signs of abuse. Curtis was the gunman, but his sister said she took the fingerprints off the gun and wiped it down. Now 29, he was was ordained a minister while behind bars. His sister married a pen pal in prison. He’s due to be released on July 28.
