We are extremely concerned by Camden’s new draft council housing allocation policy, which will drastically reduce the number of people eligible for council housing. It is estimated that more than 20,000 people will be removed from the council housing waiting list, most of whom are in desperate need of affordable housing. The consultation was not transparent and was designed with a pre-determined outcome.
The council will vote on the new policy on 22 July and it would come into effect in January 2016, when everybody on the current council housing list would have to reapply, including current tenants.
We demand an immediate suspension of the policy and a real consultation with the community.
Camden Resists is a newly-formed independent group aiming to support and share information with those in our community facing social injustice, this includes, but is not limited to, the current housing crisis and homelessness.
