Dear Mr Cameron,
Sacrificing people for profit is an obscene travesty of life and social justice. Up to 90 households on the New Era Estate in Hoxton could lose their housing thanks to Tory Richard Benyon. This mind bogglingly wealthy man is prepared to put people’s lives and well being on the line for profit.
People like Benyon are the ultimate benefit scroungers, he apparently receives something like £119,237 in housing benefits and has received more than £2million in EU subsidies since 2000, all courtesy of tax payers.
New Era Estate’s previous owners, First LBS Holdings Limited, made £306,865 profit and its shareholders received a £300,000 dividend last year. These are profits from the poor and from housing that has poor provision of heating and badly damaged windows.
Your government is throwing the poor to the wolves, sacrificing the poor for profit.
It appears that the planning for a summer of discontent is firmly in place. When a group of DPAC protesters decided to peacefully protest at Westminster Abbey to save the Independent Living Fund the Police response was swift, overwhelming and entirely disproportionate to the situation on the ground.
Despite DPAC taking your government to court and winning, your government is determined to challenge this and to do away with the Independent Living Fund. The response by the Police is a clear statement of intent to suppress and silence us.
When government abandons the people, the people have no option but to take direct action. Using the Police to silence the people and break up peaceful direct action by disabled people who presented no credible threat to anyone was an act of supreme state cowardice and wanton bullying. The use of such overwhelming force was ideologically motivated and a huge waste of tax payers money and a clear statement of the lengths that you will go to in your war on the poor.
Astonishingly, Westminster Abbey, having called the Police, refused to comment, so much for the church, ignoring the plight of disabled people. Shame on all of you!
