Government whistleblower Edward Snowden retained high-profile lawyer Plato Cacheris last summer to negotiate a plea-deal with the federal government, according to a new report by the New York Times. Cacheris, who has extensive experience with the Espionage Act and most famously was on the legal team of Monica Lewinsky, negotiated with the Department of Justice to allow Snowden to return to the US. Russia granted Snowden temporary asylum in 2013, and he continues residing in the country to escape potential prison time in the US. RT’s Ameera David has more details on this latest twist in the Snowden story.
